WHAT'S IN A NAME

We had been praying about a name for our new church for months. We all felt it should have something to do with a spring, which described something life-giving and refreshing. I also felt that part of our mission was to lead people back to The Source. Once, while visiting a house that had a spring in its basement, I noted that there was so much water flowing from the spring in their basement, that they had to find ways to manage the overflow while many of the other houses nearby ran out of water each summer.  I also noted that the area was historically known for its numerous springs. Seneca Lake is spring-fed. We long to see in the spirit what has been true in the natural. During a personal retreat, I began to feel the Lord stirring me to build this new work and happened to look down at an opened Bible and saw the word wellspring. My spirit leapt within me and I knew then that this was to be the name of our new church: WellSpring Fellowship– a Life-Giving Church.

The word wellspring is Maqowr (Heb 04726) which means spring, fountain, wellspring, a source of life, joy, or purification.

Psalm 85:11 “Truth shall spring out of the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven.”

Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” (NIV)

Proverbs 16:22 “Understanding is a wellspring of life to him who has it. But the correction of fools is folly.”

Proverbs 18:4 “The words of a man's mouth are deep waters; the wellspring of wisdom is a flowing brook.”

Isaiah 43:19 “Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

Isaiah 58:11 “The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.”

Jeremiah 2:13 “For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns--broken cisterns that can hold no water.”

John 7:38 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."
